1.    Who are the lads?

Royal Canoe are an indie pop band from Winnipeg, Canada. They have been making tunes to get down to since 2010. Walk Out On The Water (Sept'16) is a single from their third album Something Got Lost Between Here And The Orbit (Sept'16). 

2. What have they got to shout about?

Walk Out On The Water burbles along saturated in saccharine-sweet pop and unremarkable until the gospel chorus arrives. And it's a beauty. Like a fat rail; instant gratification and you'll be coming back for more far too soon.

3. Who do Royal Canoe sound like? 

The tune minds of Strangers You Know, The Young Wild or even Yeasayer.  Indie Shuffle were feeling tUnE-yArDs, Mura Masa and Hozier. Opinions. Everyone's got one.

4. What have the pricks in the press said about Walk Out On The Water?

5. Which bands have put the soul into Royal Canoe?

The big influences on Royal Canoe are Beck, The Knife and Outkast. Dr Dre and Snoop Dog are thereabouts too. 

6. Why should I give Walk Out On The Water a moment of my precious time?

Indie pop. Gospel. That's the good stuff right there. A song with emotional haft and to get you on the good foot too. The chorus is a treasure.

7. Do Royal Canoe have any more good songs?

Not for my money.

8. Any more words muppet?

The album Something Lost Between Here And There was co-produced between the band and Ben H Allen who has done nine to five for Cee Lo Green, Bombay Bicycle Club. M.I.A. and Deerhunter among others.

Only Real is Niall Galvin, an indie pop rock musician with a fat wedge of hip hop elements in his music. His music is similar to Beck and he has mad love for Kanye West, Dangermouse and Grimes as well as guitar music. Only Real have released one album, Jerk At The End Of The Line (2015). On that album is You Can't Get Happy, one of two hit songs off the album and a song that Stereogum described as “melodic rap sung lyrics while riding a dreamy pop groove.”

Yeasayer - Silly Me

 

 

 

1.    Who are these lads?

Yeasayer are an experimental rock band from Brooklyn, New York. They started there journey together in 2006 and have delivered four albums. The fourth long player Amen & Goodbye (April’16) delivered the third champion single Silly Me (March’16).


  2. What kind of cow are Yeasayer milking?

More indie pop than rock, and more ‘hit the nail on the head’ than experimental, Silly Me is a bouncy electronic pop number more contagious than a kindergartener’s hands during a flu epidemic.
 

3. Who do Yeasayer sound like?

Passion Pit. Indie Shuffle think Silly Me sounds like Wolf Parade, Animal Collective and Menomena. DIY were thinking Beck.


4. What do the brigands in the press have to say about Silly Me?

“A starry-eyed, energetic synth-rocker” – Stereogum.

5. Who puts the sparkle in Yeasayer’s eyes?

 

Yeasayer are influenced by classic sixties rock and 90’s alternative rock like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana and Beck. Yeasayer have also talked about having love for Bollywood soundtracks from the 70s, Mapfumo records, and Celtic music. On a prior record they mentioned mad love for Ace Of Base.
 

6. Why should I give Silly Me a rattle past the ear holes?

 

Silly Me is fabulous fun, instant pop gratification and a dance floor filler. Hot love and no tease.

 

 

7. Do Yeasayer have any more crackers?

 

 I Am Chemistry the first single off Amen & Goodbye is a bit of a tripper but fits the bill.

 

 

8. Any more eddifying facts and figures to share with the masses?

Amen & Goodbye was produced by Joey Waronker from Atoms For Peace and ex-drummer for Beck, Smashing Pumpkins and R.E.M.

Slippery seconds is served courtesy of Youth Club an indie dance pop band from Southend, England. Starting in 2013 the band have two E.P.'s to their name and two singles. One of the singles, a double A side with Pressure, is DTLA  (Nov'15) and it's a killer track. Described by Indietronica as mixing “guitar licks, electronic keys and R’n’D vocals to create crisp, dance oriented pop.” Not just popping harder than a nun's cherry DTLA has a bass string guitar undercurrent and is as smooth as a Compton pimp. Get some love.
