     Twin Atlantic are a rock band from Glascow, Scotland. Cooking up tunes since 2007 they have four long players under their belt. No Sleep (June'16) is the first single to bubble off their fourth album GLA (Sept'16). 

    2. What have Twin Atlantic dished up here? 

     No Sleep is a big stomper with rampant licks and riffery. Quiet loud dynamics, lyrical hedonism and a bog standard infectious chorus. No angles on this one.

     Foals, Muse and Weezer come to mind. Sort Hits were feeling the influence of Biffy Clyro.

A plethora my good man. Heart And Soul is more of the above but better. Brothers And Sisters is goose for the gander and Beast Of Myself  holds it's own in this august company.

GLA is produced by Garret "Jackknife" Lee who has put nose to the grind for Weezer, Bloc Party and The Silversun Pickups to name but a few.

Band of Horses are a rock band from Seattle, Washington. The band have released five albums including this years Why Are You OK? (June'16).  The Funeral (2006) was their debut single and the lead single from their first album Everything All The Time (2006). The Funeral is an epic song that has been featured in numerous movies, TV shows and ads. Contact Music said the song has swelling melancholy leading up to "huge chords and massive stadium rhythms pounding with blunt force."

The Best Indie Songs of 2015 - St Vincent

St Vincent’s Bad Believer is a belter and starts like Mike Tyson in his nasty prime, swinging big fucking knockout punches. Witness the machine gun drum intro and it’s straight into the chorus. Not even time to drop your pants and it’s wham bam thank you ma’am. Witness that fuzzy as fuck glam rock guitar givin a sniff of in Birth In Reverse and minding of Spirit In The Sky and T.Rex.

There are pauses. A repeat of the chorus whispered with a drum accompaniment. A bridge with organs. Organs just to belt you with the point the tune is about a lassie finding release in eschewing the miserable religious indoctrination of her youth. A barn burner with enough lead in its pencil to get heads rocking and bodies knocking. Bad Believer is one of the best indie songs of 2015.

St Vincent is Annie Clark from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has been making music with her own band since 2006. Bad Believer was released as an extra on the deluxe version of her self-titled fourth album St Vincent (Feb’15).

Shit you need to know:

Annie Clark has described her song Bad Believer as having a “rollerskate, Gary Glitter paedophile party beat”.

She has said that playing with The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens before forming her own band was "more like an apprenticeship than anything".

Annie Clark was really OCD about listening to Pearl Jam’s 10 as a youngster.

She has some hard rock influences. She was big into Metallica, Panterra and Slayer in the past. She still has a wide-o for the late Dimebag Darrel of Pantera her guitar hero.

Miss Clark fronted Nirvana when they played Lithium at their 2014 induction in to the Rock’N’Roll Hall Of Fame.

Annie get's her juice on to Twilight movies, even making a tune for one of them.

St Vincent is way popular with the folks who like to be heard. St Vincent's album was voted the best of 2014 by Guardian and NME, second best by Time and fourth best by Rollingstone, those bastions of all that is precious in the music world, holding the lonely lamp in the dead of the pitch black darkness on the frontier and defending all inside from the tasteless barbarian hordes who lurk waiting to pounce.

About making music Annie Clark has said, “People complain like, 'Oh this is so tiring.' Fuck you! Get out of the fucking game if you’re fucking tired. Go be a coal miner like most of the world, most of the world shovels shit for a living. Do something else, but don’t complain about this shit.” That is some righteous shit right there people. The lady deserves a lot of respect. She can keep the St.

Stirring the custard belongs to a boogie rock band from Canada, The Sheepdogs, and their groovy, fuzzy rocker Feeling Good (2012) on account of the guitar in Bad Believer reminds of this inconceivably good track.

 

 

The Best Indie Songs of 2015 - Muse

Muse Psycho (March’15) starts out with a dirty guitar stomp reminiscent of classic rock tracks like Acca Dacca’s You Shook Me All Night Long, Led Zep’s Misty Mountain Hop or Lenny Kravitz’s American Woman. But more fuck-offery than either of them and with those Muse style variations that both drift into the ether and then return to kick arse and take no names. Matthew Bellamy’s voice will never be mistaken for another and he marshals the troops in this track and whips the tune into line like Rommel leading the 7^thPanzer division in France 1940.

There’s no ambiguity in this track. It’s as in your face as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman screaming at Private Pile in Full Metal Jacket, “I will gouge your eyes out and skull fuck you” or “It looks like to me the best part of you ran down your mama’s ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress.”

Yes the songs having a right go at military conditioning and the results thereof. Both musically and lyrically this is one of the world’s best bands handing out a brutal musical butt fucking. Yes without the common courtesy of a reach around. Psycho has been scientifically proven to be one of the best indie songs of 2015.

Muse are an alternative rock band from the bloody small town of Teignmouth, England. Psycho is a promotional single for their seventh album Drones (June’15).

Shit you need to know:

The biggest musical influence on these space cowboys is Rage Against The Machine. Other notables are Queen, Nirvana, David Bowie and Depeche Mode.

Muse have sold well in excess of 15 million albums worldwide.

They wanted to fly on to stage at their Wembley shows in 2007 with jet packs but couldn’t because of bullshit health and safety laws.

The singer once conducted press interviews in New York in a helicopter as he was convinced a meteorite was going to hit causing a tsunami that would wipe out the east coast.

The other inspiring songs in their stellar catalogue are Knights of Cydonia, Uprising and Panic Station.

The two-for-one is English indie rock band Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine and Blood Sport For All (1991) cause the tune rocks hard while having a word to say about boy scouts and all.
