Houndmouth are an indie/folk rock band from New Albany, Indiana. This Party (May’18) is the lead single from their third album Golden Age (August’18).

This Party is quite a departure from Houndmouth's roots/rock sound, instead embracing a pop/rock song that rests on an electronic dance groove.


3. Who do Handmouth sound like?

Generally Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats or The Oh Hellos. Specifically Passion Pit or Gorillaz.

Because you need a light rock moment with a couple of hooks and a sticky chorus. Because of the way Houndmouth take it down to a whisper in the breakdown before the all-in chorus.

This Party is produced by Jonathan Rado (Foxygen, Lemon Twigs) and Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, The War On Drugs).

The Oh Hellos are an indie folk rock band from San Marcos, Texas. The brother and sister band started making music together in 2011 and have recorded three albums and four E.P's. The Oh Hellos are influenced by Los Compesinos!, The Pogues, and Mumford & Sons. Torches (Nov'17) was the lead single for their third album Notos (Dec'17). Torches is a bombastic indie folk song that builds with strings and is given punch by the gang vocals.

Lull - Nouvelle

  

    1.    Who are Lull? 

     Lull are a shoegaze band from North London, England. The band kicked the journey off in 2014 and Nouvelle scrapes off their second E.P. Nouvelle (June'16). 

    2. What kind of song is Nouvelle? 

     Nouvelle is a grungy slow burner that wades along with churning guitars and standard issue distortion. Sticky as an iced bun in summer but. 

    3. Who do Lull sound like? 

      The Meat Puppets for me. For others Lull have been compared to The Cocteau Twins, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sunny Day Real Estate, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.

Broncho are a garage rock band from Norman, Oklahoma. The band started rolling in 2010 and have four long players under their arm. Try Me Out Sometime (2013) is a low-fi gem that trundled off their debut album Can't Get Past The Lips (2011 and 2013) and was called a “straightforward, Ramones –like anthem with clean-cut production and staccato guitar strums” by KEXP. Sounds like Kiwi legends The Clean too.

Weaves - One More

 

1.    Who is this force of nature?

Weaves are a genre hopping indie rock band that come bounding out of Toronto, Canada. One More (March’16) is the lead song from Weaves debut long player Weaves (June’16).


2. What are Weaves pitching?

One More is an angry post-punk serve at the random mongrels you meet in life with an honest-as-a-rusty-nail garage band in furious accompaniment.


3. Who do Weaves sound like?

PUP and Cloud Nothings come to mind.

Weaves guitarist Morgan Waters says Led Zeppelin, Prince, The B52’s and The Pixies are the big influences. There has been talk from singer Jasmyn Burke for collective love for Ween, Bjork and The Staple Singers.


6. Why should I give One More a whip past?

One More has noisy bubble surrounding an up the guts lyrical serve. Sound as a pound. Dude got done told.


7. Do Weaves have any more monster tracks?

One More showcases the band at their best.

The new album Weaves was mixed by Alex Newport who has done same for Death Cab For Cuties and mastered by John Greenham who has gone to the bank for Sky Ferreira.

Weaves are touring this month with indie favorites Sunflower Bean and went on tour fluffing for Marilyn Manson.

Slow Riot are a post-punk band from Limerick, Ireland. Started in 2013 and with a short player in the bank, Trophy Wife (March’16) is a stand alone single at the minute. Sonic Abuse reckon Trophy Wife is as an “amazing, troubled, post-punk knockout.” Trophy Wife is having a word about being in a relationship for the wrong reasons.

The Best Indie Songs of 2014 - Bahamas

Bahamas is blues, roots, folk, soul or something like that. But on Stronger Than That (July’14) there is an all-in indie chorus and piano like on Lean On Me. So actually it’s like quite like an indie track.

Stronger Than That is a laid back chilling track that minds me of Ben Harper. The chorus is where it’s at and there’s some pretty tight guitar playing too.

Bahamas is Afie Jurvanen a great guitar player and songwriter from Toronto, Canada. He’s been lamenting his lot since least 2009.

Stronger Than That  is the second plaint from the long player Bahamas Is Afie (Aug’14). Afie has mad admiration for Willie Nelson, Van Morrison and Neil Young. Fucking weirdo.

Well if you dig lo-fi whinging and great song writing then ya could do worse than give All The Time and Lost In Light a fair shake of the stick.
