Lemaitre - Closer

1. Who are they?
Lemaitre are an indie electronic band from Oslo, Norway, who fight out of Los Angeles.  The duo have been together since 2010 and have six EP’s to their name. Closer (June’15) bubbled off their latest short player 1749 (Jan’16).

2. What have they got?
Closer soars on vocalist Jennie A's smooth vocals and bangs with fat bass and sassy brass. An indie pop banger with a side of electronica that will get the dead dancing.

3.  Who do Lemaitre sound like?
Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers.

4. What have the press said about Closer?
“Electrifying mix of bass lines and brass” – Blushing Panda.
“A funky, trumpet filled vibe fest you can’t help but groove to” – Fist In The Air.
“A piano and horn combo that will light a fire of swagger in your belly” – The Burning Ear.

5. Which bands have put Lemaitre on the good foot?
The main Lemaitre influences are Daft Punk, Boys Noize, Crystal Castles, Ratatat, Justice and Deadmau5.

6. Why should I give Closer a bash?
Closer is sweet love at first sight and bounces big.

7. Do Lemaitre have any more good un’s?
High Tide is white boy funky.

8. Any more words?
Lemaitre like playing Minecraft and skateboarding.

“Oh I dream of the lazy days”

Pegase are a French indie dream pop band. Playing together since 2008 they have one long player in the vault. Well Bell sashays off their second album Another World (May'16). Well Bell is an infectious, dreamy, pop number that drifts by like puffy white clouds on a light breeze of a summers day. Paris Match thought Well Bell is “rhythmic and punchy.” Bit random.

“The fire walks with me”

The Best Indie Songs of 2015 - Satellite Stories

Satellite Stories The Trap (Dec’14) comes bursting out of the traps with brass, a military drum beat and the chorus upfront. There’s a ska feel to the verses and a few changes of pace in the third minute but on the whole song is like an Eskimo having sex outside. Hard pumping to the finish line.

The Trap is a song about staying true to your heart in a relationship against the pressure to conform to societal norms, the horns are what make this song stand out from the others. And it does stand out from the others. The Trap is the best Satellite Stories song and one of the best indie songs of 2015.

“See the only road I know and off I go"

Satellite Stories are from Oulu, a progressive university city in Northern Norway. They have been on the job since 2008. The Trap is the first single off Satellite Stories third album Vagabonds (March’15).

Shit you need to know:

Indie Shuffle said The Trap sounds like Two Door Cinema Club and Walla. These characters called it , “...a blaring call to arms.”  I was thinking of Of Monsters And Men but I’m simple so of course I am.

The new album was produced by Simon ‘Barny’ Barnicott who has previously worked with the Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Preatures.

Satellite Stories have mentioned a fondness for The Wombats, Vampire Weekend and Two Door Cinema Club. One of the bands favourite bands is The Royal Concept.

The band describe their music as, “always danceable indie rock” while others have said it is “upbeat, enthusiastic in nature”.

In 2012 Satellite Stories were the second most blogged about band in the world.

The special Satellite Stories songs are Heartbeat,  Lights Go Low and Vagabonds.

The dodgy double dip comes courtesy of Swedish indie rock band The Royal Concept as Satellite Stories mentioned they have a hard on for them and their anthemic singalong track On Our Way (2013).

The Best Indie Songs of 2015 - Kid Astray

Kid Astray It’s Alright (March'15) is fucking good times brilliant. Good enough to make a dead man dance. It starts with the perfect set up. Thirty seconds of near unaccompanied laidback singing, a little guitar plucking and synth build up then the rhythm section give it some tits and at the one minute mark the climatic all in. Arses are shaking and pussies aching. Choruses like this need to be carved in marble for future civilisations to understand the unalloyed joy of using up all the oil. Bag this tune and sell it on the corner. It’s instant happy.

No shortage of synth but it ain’t too soft Goldilocks. Just enough guitar to edge the tune close enough to indie rock that you won’t lose your street cred blasting it from your car stereo. A tune about overcoming the demons of your past, Elizabeth Wu’s voice is nigh on angelic, and provides a superb counter point to Benjamin Giortz’s more earthy lead. All told this banger is as sticky as a pre-schooler’s hands after going to the toilet and dimes to dollars you can bet this is one of the best fucking indie songs of 2015.

“You keep blinding me, with your own stupidity

It makes me curious, how you get so furious,

But it’s alright, you are gonna make it alright…”

Kid Astray are an indie pop band from Sandvika, a town close to Oslo, Norway. They started making sweet music in high school and this is the second offering off their debut album Home Before Dark (June’15).

Shit you need to know:

Kid Astray’s  main influences are Passion Pit, Foster the People and The Wombats. Kid Astray also wouldn't kick Michael Jackson out of the bed for getting frisky and like 80's and 90's synth pop.

The drummer’s mom’s punk band are an inspiration.

The band met and started playing together in high school. One was a Vogue model, another a junior golf champion and another a piano prodigy.

If you're looking for another Kid Astray cracker try Still Chasing Nothing.

Here is the Australian indie funk rockers Bluejuice and I'll Go Crazy (2014).
