Will And The People - Wasting Time

1. Who are these scruffs?
They are Will And The People an indie reggae rock band from London by way of Brighton, England. They have three albums in the bag and Wasting Time (Jan’16) is a single release from their fourth album. They have been putting the roll in your rock since 2006.

2. What kind of tune are they banging?

Wasting Time is an indie rock love song. A noisy quiet, rocking melodic, feel good breezy song with layers of vocals slathered about that is over before you've soaked in all it's glory. It saunters across the line at the magic three minute mark.

3. Who do Will and The People sound like?

I don't want to say Wasting Time sounds like the Pixies but I have company. Let's go for SWMR's while we're at it and throw Best Coast in the mix on account of the surfie milleu it evokes.

Will The People have been compared to Chef Special and The Guardian was minded of Jack Jackson, The Police and The Specials. Others went a bit left field with The Cat Empire and The John Butler Trio.

4. What's the good word from the press?

Overwhelmingly positive. The Line Of Best Fit hoorayed that Wasting Time is,
“a brilliant single,” that is “complete with Libertines-nodding, bluesy punctuation and an intricate, ecstatic, backing-vocal-filled middle eight.” They love their Libertines the Brit press do.

Never Enough Notes were enarmoured with the tunes “epic riffs” and decided Wasting Time is “the most cockle-warming singalong you’ve heard recently.”

It's All Indie got all hot and bothered feeling they had heard, “a track full of pure authenticity, with a catchy chorus and sincere lyrics.”

On the whole Will And The People's music has been lauded as, “raucous, rambunctious, reggae-fuelled,” and having, “a knack for catchy, fun-fuelled pop-punk.”

5. Who are Will And The People influenced by?
Music that puts the bounce in their step includes Bob Marley, The Beatles, The Doors, Supertramp, The Police, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mott The Hoople, Elton John, Elbow and artists from Sun Records. The Pixies got a mention somewhere.

6. Why should I listen to Wasting Time?
Massive sonicscapes minding of Pixies or Nirvana are peppered with guitar noodles and 'la la la' vocals, as cute as listening to Rabbit!, that add up to a relentlessly upbeat indie rock tune that will slap a smile on your dial right quick.

7. Have Will And The People got any other bangers?
Lion In The Morning Sun is the place to go for those sunshine ska vibes. Yeah Holiday has more of the same, you can figure out the rest.

8. Anything else?
Wasting Time was recorded by Larry Crane from The Shins and Jon Beery from Weezer.
The band have been on fluffer duties for rock gods like Green Day, The Foo Fighters and The Police.
The band are known for tremendous live shows to monster crowds and embracing a wide variety of musical styles.
Will And The People recorded a song with Passenger

“I don’t mind wasting time if it’s with you”

Today's double dip is the greatest tune from indie rock band The Shins who came grooving out of the unspellable Albuquerque, New Mexico and delivered this gem Simple Song in 2012.
