Wolfmother - Gypsy Caravan

1. Who are these smooth looking characters?
Wolfmother are an Australian hard rock band started back in 2000. Gypsy Caravan  (Jan'16) comes storming off their fourth long player Victorious (Feb'16) and is the third single released off it.

2. What kind of tune is Gypsy Caravan?
Hard rocking with monster riffs and vocals like Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. If you told me it's a Led Zeppelin song I'd believe you.

3. Who do Wolfmother sound like?
Gypsy Caravan brought to mind Black Sabbath to ZumicMusic Feeds thought Black Sabbath meets Led Zeppelin while throwing Tame Impala in the mix.
They sound like a bit like Royal Blood to this neophyte. But better minds have fixed on Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes, The Black Keys and Rival Sons among others. AC/DC sound alikes Airbourne is a left field call. A lot of commentators are fixated on the Black Sabbath slash Led Zeppelin idea.

4. What's the good word from the press?
Gypsy Caravan is a “fuzzy, riff-driven jam” and a “hunk of psychedelic, 70's inspired hard rock, ho hummed Music Feeds. “A high energy song with strong guitar riffs backed by bombastic rock drumming,” said Zumic playing with a straight bat and “a fuzzy, riff-oriented jam that harkens back to the most cherished moments of the 70’s filtered through Wolfmother's modern lens, felt Loudwire in a more verbose outburst.
Blabbermouth promises that the new album Victorious has, “songs (that) are edgy, inventive and uncompromising and rank among the band's best ever.” The bands main muse, guitarist and vocalist Andrew Stockdale says, “We wanted to get back to that big sound. The album is a balance of garage-y energy and big production. It’s wild, energetic and perfect for a festival main stage.”

5. Who are Wolfmother's influences?

The band have pointed the knife at bands like Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Who, as giving them the will to rock until death. The Avalanches, Radiohead, The White Stripes and Kings of Leon are the more contemporary influences. Singer Andrew Stockdale has also divulged his love for The Doors and AC/DC. Jimi Hendrix is noted as a big inspiration too.

6. Why should I listen to Gypsy Caravan?

Have you ever loved a Led Zeppelin song? Can anyone say not to that? Of course not. So imagine Led Zeppelin in their prime and all said in done in three and a half minutes. Yeah pretty fantastic isn't it?

7. Have Wolfmother got any more fire crackers?

The breakout hit Woman is superb and Joker And The Thief is as strong as Dwayne Johnson's biceps.

8. Any other gossip?

The new album Victorious was recorded by Brendan O'Brien who has broken rocks in the hot sun for Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Chris Cornell and Bruce Springsteen.
When Led Zeppelin were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame they called on Wolfmother to appear as their guests and bang out one of Led Zeppelin's tunes for them.

“The bolts of lightning tried to strike you down
The behemoth is waiting at the door”

In May’16 Wolfmother are playing a rock festival with Collective Soul, Disturbed, Shinedown, 3 Doors Down and Sixx AM among others.  Sixx AM are a hard rock band from Los Angeles and a side project of the Motley Crue bass player Nicki Sixx but the truth is some of their songs are so much better, even more alternative, than anyone had any right to expect. With that in mind wrap your lips around this number Lies Of The Beautiful People (2011).
