The Clause - Weekend Millionaire

1. Who are The Clause?

The Clause are an indie pop rock band from Birmingham, England. They have been playing together for over five years and Weekend Millionaire (Sept, 2024) is the lead single from their third E.P of the same name Weekend Millionaire (Oct, 2024).

2. What kind of song is Weekend Millionaire?

Weekend Millionaire is a instantly catchy, radio-friendly indie-pop song that steadily builds up to a ever so slightly rowdy crescendo. Weekend Millionaire also capture that wistful, maudlin, slice-of-life tone captured by indie rock bands like The Courteeners, James or even The Smiths that get juxtaposed with bright and bubbly choruses. I love it.

3. Who do The Clause sound like?

James, The Reytons, The Courteeners.

4. Which bands have influenced The Clause?

The Clause's main influences are The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Kasabian, and ABBA.

5. What have the press said about The Clause?

"Effortlessly combine huge hooks with gritty choruses" - Norwich Box Office.

"Limitless amounts of swagger and the seal of approval from Jane's Addiciton frontman Perry Ferrell" - Totalntertainment.

"Among the most exciting up-and-coming indie bands in the U.K." - Northern Exposure.

Lois - Monkey Girl

1.   Who are this cheerful looking crew?

Lois are an indie rock'n'roll band from Nottingham, England and making wild music since 2007. Lois have one long player The Polperro Horse Bus Company (2015) for keepsies and a short player. Monkey Girl (Sept'15) bounces off the album and is a 2011 re-release. Worth the trouble but.

2. What kind of gold have we gleaned from Lois?

Monkey Girl is a vital, modern garage rocker with grimey, fuzzy, reverb filled guitars and lashings of sixties rock trimmings for flavor. The rhythm bounces like an epileptic Eskimo's bum making love in the snow.

3. Who do Lois sound like?

Monkey Girl is like Allah La's Every Girl and Night Beat's No Cops but with more grit. The Kinks come to mind.

Nottingham Live compared Lois to The Manic Street Preachers, Kula Shaker and Primal Scream.

4. What have those bastions of fine taste, the music press, got to say about Monkey Girl?

“Retro-tinged coolness with a fresh and exciting modern edge.” – Reverb Nation.

“Pay attention... this is how you make a single.” – Leftlion Magazine.

“This song is so catchy you will be fighting an earworm for weeks.” – Rock At Night.

5. Which bands have influenced these fine fellows?
Lois’ major influences are The Doors, The Beatles, The Small Faces and Elvis Presley. Lois have also mentioned some love for Booker T and The MG's, Labelle, T Rex, The Rolling Stones, The Charlatans and The Long Blondes.

6. Why should I give Monkey Girl a whirl?
Garage rock is huge at the minute and Monkey Girl is a vital addition. As catchy as the flu in a kindy.

7. Do Lois have any more good songs?
Be True To Yourself has an epic Oasis or Beatles singalong quality.

8. Any more pearls of wisdom about these mystical musicians?
Check out the support crew on Lois' recordings. Guy Massey has gone to work for The Beatles and The Manic Street Preachers. Jim Spencer has slaved in the dungeon for The Charlatans, The Cribs, Oasis, The Vaccines and New Order. Jon Astley has put nose to the grind for The Who and The Small Faces. Rock'n'roll nobility my friends.

“I see you walk out with Honky Tonk,
Dressed in your high heels I see through you,
Unlike the others you’re still abused”

Dessert is served by Ratatat a New York indie electronic rock duo. Playing together since 2001 the band have five long players under the bed. Cream On Chrome (April'15) rolls off their fifth album Magnifique (2015). Line Of Best Fit say Cream On Chrome, “Slowly builds to an ebulliently unnerving crescendo.” Don't wait for the vocals to kick in it's an instrumental.

Holy Bouncer - Anticipation

1.   Who are these angelic looking crew?
Holy Bouncer are an indie rock band from Barcelona, Spain. Holy Bouncer have a short player Ladies and Gentlemen in the vault and Anticipation  (Nov'15) is a  single release from Holy Bouncer's as yet unnamed debut album.

2. What kind of magic have they weaved?

Kick arse drumming. Like those old seventies classic rock outs. The man on the skins belts seven shades of shit out of them. Anticipation sound like classic rock played by an indie band. There are bongos. Around the three minute mark the ladies in the back up line join in and elevate Anticipation into the realms of special.

3. Who do Holy Bouncer sound like?

Counting Crowes, Hootie and the Blowfish and Spin Doctors. My Morning Jacket swim in the same pool.

The band compare Anticipation to Joe Cocker, The Rolling Stones and Santana.

4. What do the press have to say?

“Has that flavor of old-school rock” – Jungle Indie Rock Spain.

“A carefree, very rhythmic song, with good vibes” – La Mon Magazine.
“Garage rock and an irresistible mix of classic sounds and unpredictable turns” – Big Thing Music.

5. Who put the knuckle in Holy Bouncer's duster?
Holy Bouncer's influences are The Doors, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eels, Jack White, Kings of Leon, Jimi Hendrix and R.L. Burnside.

6. Why should I give Anticipation a spin?
Anticipation is classic rock with a modern twist. Uplifiting and a dash of the cerebral.

7. Do Holy Bouncer have any more big swingers?
The Mysteries Of A Curly Jungle is the go to track here, a giant garage rocker.

8. Any more pearls of wisdom?
Holy Bouncer have said that Anticipation is "... about the mistakes we make as individuals, frustration felt by the protagonist to see that people choose a path before knowing oneself, i.e, to anticipate error."

Holy Bouncer do a carefree Arctic Monkeys cover, Snap Out Of It.

“Your anticipation could be anything you want,
and that you’ve lost,
Your anticipation makes you be someone you’re not”

Dessert is served by Ex Hex. Ex Hex are a garage rock band from Washington D.C. who have been mixing it up since 2013. They have one long player Rips (2014) and a short player Hot and Cold behind them. Guitarist and vocalist Mary Timony played in bands like Wild Flag and Helium and the three piece bonded over their love for The Ramones and Johnny Thunders. Don't Wanna Lose (Jan'15) is a single from Rips called by Stereogum “a full-blooded guitar-pop anthem.”

“Come on, take to me, baby, and don't be so cold,
Your kingdom comes from action and not from being bored.”
