ROMP - Last Year

1.    Who are these loose gooses?

ROMP are an indie rock band with pop punk tendencies from New Brunswick, New Jersey. Last Year is the first shot from there debut big player Departure From Venus (March’16).

2.    What have ROMP fired across our bows?

Last Year has production as crisp as the air on a autumn morning. Transcendental vocals are allied with sharp cracking blows from the guitar and Last Year is gone like loose leaves in a gust of wind.

3. Who do ROMP sound similar to?
Stereogum have the good oil pushing Now Now and Chumped to the head of the list. The Key were liking Allison Weiss and The Front Bottoms for the job and Just Music I Like was thinking Wolf Alice and Bully fit the bill.

4. What have music press got to say about Last Year?

“Built on the vulnerability of singer/keyboardist Madison Klarer’s vocals and the powerful drive of their punk-infused dance pop” – Punk A Normal Activity.

“Fits and starts, ping-ponging from dreamy indie-pop laden melodies to quick bursts of nimble percussion and guitar strums” – The Grey Estates.

“Kinda punky kinda poppy, track where vocalist Madison Klarer injects stark lyricism over driving, guitar-led musicianship” – Bad Timing Records.

5. Which bands have put the bayonet in ROMP’s charge?

ROMPS favorite bands are Manchester Orchestra, Pinegrove, Professor Caveman, Frankie Cosmos, Girlpool, Cayetana, Screaming Females, FIDLAR, Makthaverskan, Nirvana, No Doubt and Adventures.

6. Why should I give Last Year a lash?

Last Year is pop punk done really well without testosterone and the production is crystal. Songs like Last Year prove pop punk is not a pejorative.

7. Do ROMP have any more worthy fare?

Backfire doesn’t. It fronts up with guns blazing. A rip snorting pop punk track.

8. Any more knowledge to carve into the ether?

Last Year is about the need to escape from a rut and find something new.

“There is something in my head telling me to make a change”

Bringing more bang for your buck are punk band The Rabble. Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand and springing kicking and screaming into life in 2001 the now defunct band racked up four distinguished long players in their glorious career, finding fame and fortune both at home and in far flung lands. Friday Night (2007) was the bands greatest mainstream success at finds the proud men taking a musical leaf from the page of punk royalty Rancid's musical bible and with a dash of the Dropkick Murphys. Bloody brilliant bastards.

“We’re hanging on the streets, we’re singing all the songs,
Starting off the night with the Oi! Oi! Oi!”
